Lincoln Town Car is an US-American automodel of the upper luxury class of the luxury mark Lincoln belonging to the company Ford.

Lincoln the Town Car is the US-American counterpart to the S-class and is the flagship of Lincoln, since it was brought in the year 1981 on the market. Town Cars place the majority of the luxury sedans in the USA (about 85%), and Stretch sedans are almost exclusively Town Cars. Even if not to the Stretch sedan converted, the Town Car has still substantial extents. With a length of 5,46 m it is largest in mass production manufactured American passenger cars and the fourth largest of the world, after the May brook, roll Royce phantom and Bentley the Arnage. Although the Town Car is considered as one of the ultimative status symbols in the USA, it is relatively favorable compared to the competition. The prices for the Town Car lie between US$ 42,050 and US$ 56.745. Largest competitor on the US-American market is the Cadillac DTS. In Europe inclusive Germany where the Town Car only over few importers to be referred is, is it also as Stretch sedan well-known.

History

The name Town Car was used for the first time for a special equipment of the 1959er Lincoln Continental. After the Continental had received a new Design, the Town Car special equipment was no longer available. Only in the year 1971 the designation Town Car dipped. From 1971 to 1979 the Town Car was the version with the highest special equipment package for the Lincoln Continental. 1981 were temporarily adjusted the production Lincoln of the Continental, and Lincoln the Town Car became Lincoln's presenting model.

The name Town Car refers to a kind of sedan, which was very popular in the 20's in the USA. In the Town Cars of the 20's sat the passengers on the rear seat in a separate cab, while the driver sat outside of the cab in the open one. Several luxury automobile companies into the 20ern such as nozzle mountain, roll Royce, Bentley and Lincoln sold Town Cars.

Model versions

1979

In the year 1979 was Lincoln the Town Car only as the highest option package on the Lincoln Continental; the flagship at that time of Lincoln. The Lincoln Continental with Town Car package received his names by the mehrzahligen Design elements, which were taken over by the classical Town Cars of the 1920er and 1930er-Jahre.

1981

In model year 1981 the Town Car became its own model and became at the same time the Vorzeigemodel of Lincoln.

1990

Lincoln the Town Car was completely again designt for the Modeljahr 1990. The angular Design elements and edges of the Town Car of the 1980er were replaced by a more aerodynamic and winding Design. In the year 1991 the Town Car received the honor "to Car & Driver Car OF the Year ".

1995

For the Modeljahr 1995 the interior was arranged completely new. New seats, instruments as well as a new instrument panel were part of the new interior. Clear headlights belonged from the outside as a new grill to the improvements.

1998

Lincoln the Town Car 1998 first time in eight years completely redesignt to favour of the aerodynamics. The interior was arranged likewise new. A new instrument panel, new seats, and an inside paneling at the doors belonged to the improvements. Many of the old plastic surfaces were replaced with timber cladding or leather.

2003

For 2003 several smaller elements were renewed. The radiator figure as a rather angular Design was again introduced.
