A letter center (BZ) is a distribution center for letters, furnished by the German post office AG. It serves above all the rationalization of the The distribution system processes daily 65 million letters from 140.000 mail boxes in completely Germany.

The mechanism of the letter centers was part at the beginning of the 1990er years of the started concept "letter 2000". This covered apart from the standardisation of the letter sizes also the introduction of the postal zip codes of five figures. Until 1998 was established altogether 83 letter centers. In the December of the same yearly the last letter center was taken in Regensburg in enterprise. The letter centers replace generally speaking country to approximately 1,000 letter working on places. On 28 November 2003 the letter center 42 (Wuppertal) was closed again. Since that time there are only 82 letter centers.

The letter centers are divided according to the processing of their daily Briefsendungen in five sizes:

• S with 450.000 - 750,000 Briefsendungen
• M with 750.000 - 1.500.000 Briefsendungen
• L with 1.500.000 - 2.250.000 Briefsendungen
• XL with 2.250.000 - 3.000.000 Briefsendungen
• XXL with 3.000.000 - 4.500.000 Briefsendungen

The letter center from (65) Wiesbaden is in the quarter Mainz Kastel. Mainz Kastel belongs however postal seen to Mainz, therefore the post office for Mainz Kastel not sorted in "are suitable" BZ, but in the BZ Mainz (Mainz Hechtsheim).
