Leopold Figl (* 2 October 1902 in Rust, Lower Austria, "† 9. May 1965 in Vienna) was a Austrian politician.

Figl created the MKV connection Nibelungia pc. as a high school student. After the austrofaschistischen coup d'etat of Engelbert Dollfuss became Figl member of the federal economic council and the down-Austrian leader of the storm crowds. Starting from 1937 he was also chairman of the realm farmer federation.

After the connection of Austria Figl became to 12. March 1938 arrested and in the KZ Dachau deportiert, from which it to 8. May 1943 to dismiss became. It accepted a place as an oil engineer in Lower Austria. On 8 October 1944 Figl was again arrested and deportiert in the KZ duty living. After the release of Vienna by Soviet troops Figl received the order from the to supply the Viennese population with food. By the experiences of the and the national socialism Figl had become the proponent of a co-operation of all political camps. On 27 April Figl became a provisional national captain of Lower Austria and undersecretary of state.

After the first elections Figl was appointed on 20 December 1945 the Austrian Federal Chancellor. One of its most famous speeches was the Weihnachtsansprache in the year 1945:

I cannot give you to Christmas to anything, I can you for the Christian tree, if it at all one have, no candles give, no piece bread, no coal, no glass for cutting. We do not have anything. I can only ask you, believe in this Austria! (Leopold Figl, Weihnachtsansprache 1945)

On 26 November 1953 it, after internal criticism at its to large compromise readiness with the was replaced as Federal Chancellors from Julius Raab. Figl became a minister of foreign affairs of the government Raab and had as such large portion of the conclusion of the convention.

After its signing to 15. May 1955 in the lock Belvedere in Vienna spoke minister of foreign affairs Figl the legendary words: "Austria is free!"

1959 were replaced Figl as a minister of foreign affairs by Bruno Kreisky. From 1959 to 1962 Figl was a first national council president, thereafter down-Austrian national captain.

With the attendance of Khrushchev 1962 in Figls of closer homeland it came to the legendary Kukuruz bet, with which it concerned, where higher corn (Kukuruz) grows. The bet won Figl, however never got the agreed upon pig it.

1965 died Figl after short, serious illness in Vienna.
