Lancia Dedra (internal designation 835) is a car in the medium range on basis of the understructure of the Fiat Tipo. Sister models are the Fiat Tempra, the Alfa Romeo 146 and Alfa Romeo 155, as well as the compact models Lancia delta Nuova, Alfa Romeo 145 and the Fiat Tipo already mentioned.
There was the Lancia Dedra in two Karosserie-Varianten, from 1989 to at the end of of 1994 excluding as sedan and starting from at the end of of 1994 to at the end of of 1999 also still alternatively as combination (station Wagon, shortened as SW). The standard level exceeded the then usual extent by far and Lancia raised the requirement a competitor to Mercedes190, BMW 3er and AUDI 80 to have created. In practice however customers saw the Dedra rather as alternative (also concerning the price) to VOLKSWAGEN gulf/Vento, OPEL Astra, Ford Escort/focus.
Toward end of the Produktionszyklus' the sales decreased/went back naturally, what was to be led not least on old-fashioned safety equipment back (a front seat passenger Airbag about was not available). During model introduction meanwhile the car driving and safety-relevant was comparatively well equipped (ABS, safety chassis, 4 head restraints etc.), with the Facelift 1993 experienced it then further improvements of the passive (side impact protection, body reinforcements, Fire Prevention system, stronger brakes) and active security Airbag, belt-taut etc.). All those equipment characteristics did not rank at that time necessarily among the class standard.
The engine selection went through numerous changes, in particular the petrol engines was available in many variants and stages of development. As basis petrol engines with 1.6 litres, 1,8 litres, 2,0 litres, 2,0 litres of turbo were blocked. Alternatively also a turbo-Diesel engine with 1.9 litres capacity could be ordered.
(The measured values in above listing are valid for the sedan execution, except: 2,0 16V of integrals - here there is motorizing only in the combination)
All Dedras was equipped, with exception 2,0 i.e AUTOMATIC, these adapted had in series gotten a 4-Stufen-Automatic from the Volkswagen company with a 5-Gang-Schaltgetriebe.
The Dedra a Fronttriebler was according to standard. All-wheel drive was in the first series in combination with the 2-Liter-Turbomotor available as integrals orderable, in the second series against it only as combination with 2.0-16V-Motor. The 4-Rad-Technik was essentially based on the delta HF of integrals and is considered as very durable. Beside the Dedra the identically constructed drive system is in the rest of also in the Fiat Tempra 4x4 or the Alfa 155 Q4.
When unusually the optionally orderable the electronically regulated may apply chassis (computer-controlled absorber attitude between soft and hard - depending upon roadway and driving condition), besides also the optional digital (or - in the Lancia jargon - opto-electronic) instrument panel or the automatic shining width adjustment with the Dedra. All equipment characteristics mentioned were painted however in the course of the Produktionszyklus' from the accessory lists and/or the standard.
