Kurt Wolff (* 3. March 1887 in Bonn; " 21 October 1963) was a German publisher.
Kurt Wolff was born 1887 in Bonn. Its father, Leonhard Wolff, is a professor for music history at the University of Bonn. 1907 he marries seventeen-year old Elizabeth Merck. it in Leipzig Ernst Rowohlt meets 1908, in whose publishing house he becomes first quiet partner. On 1 November 1912 Rowohlt steps out of the common publishing house, which Wolff transfers and renames to Kurt Wolff publishing house. In the year 1912 Wolff becomes acquainted with also Franz Kafka. 1913 appears the first works of Hasenclever, Werfel, Kafka and Trakl in the new Kurt Wolff publishing house. 1919 move the publishing house from Leipzig, increased in the meantime to 60 coworkers, to Munich. 1924 create Wolff in Florenz a new publishing house, which Pantheon Casa Editrice, in which manufactured art-scientific expenditures for monumental are to appear. To 1930 twenty volumes appear. In this time the Munich publishing house turns out into a ever deeper financial crisis. 1930 give Wolff up and dissolve the publishing house. In this year also its marriage becomes divorced. 1933 it leaves Germany and finally lands in a village with Florenz, where it operates a kind pension with his second Mrs. Helen. it flees 1938 with woman and small child to France, 1941 succeeds from there in last minute the escape into the USA. 1942 create Wolff here its new publishing house Pantheon Books, which is very successful already soon. 1960 it separates from Pantheon Books and returns themselves again to Europe. With an attendance in Germany in the year 1963 Wolff is seized by a truck and succumbs shortly thereafter to its injuries. It is bestattet in Marbach.
