Kramer was an US-American enterprise, which manufactured from 1979 to 1990 E-guitars. Since 1996 the trademark laws are in the possession of the company Gibson.

History

Kramer was created 1975 by Gary Kramer and Dennis Berardi. Gary Kramer was former coworker at the company Travis Bean, which made instruments with necks since 1974 of aluminum. Oriented at these instruments Kramer built first likewise guitars with aluminum necks. Although some guitarists (e.g. Stanley Jordan) played it enthusiastically, large success at the market was missing.

Starting from 1980 one built then guitars with necks from wood. With Eddie van Halen as advertising media and Innovator succeeded finally the break-through, and stuff he guitars experienced its high point end of the 80's. Many the skirt volume such as Bon Jovi, Cinderella or Skid Row, announced at that time, played guitars of Kramer. Some guitarists had so-called "Signature of models ", guitars, which were built after their conceptions and were also in series available. To it Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) or Vivian Campbell (Whitesnake) e.g. belong. A time stuff he guitars the usually-sold were long in the USA. With the fall of these Hairspray of Metal volume it became quieter also around Kramer, until the company was finally dissolved 1990.

In the autumn 1996 the US-American company Gibson bought the trademark laws and brought out some the old models again. These are produced by the company Epiphone and driven out by the company MusicYo. Both companies belong likewise to the Gibson company. In the English linguistic area these guitars also MusicYo Kramers are called, in order to differentiate it from the historical models to.

Building method

The extremely modified guitars of Eddie van Halen served as collecting main for the standard models of Kramer, thus one brought some innovations on the market, which formed the term Heavy Metal Strat later:

• Korpus in form Fender of a Stratocaster
• Head end plate first (copies from a Gibson Explorer), later pointedly approaching
• (Later also several) a Humbucker pick-up
• Detuning-free Tremolosystem (only as optional extra equipment of the German company Rockinger, later in series of Floyd rose).

A further characteristic were the failed motive lacquer finishes, for example with the face of Marilyn Monroe or futuristic Heavy Metal motives.
