History

Kockums in 19. Century

Into the 1820ern the family Kockum was established as handels and an industrial entrepreneur in Fray to Henric Kockum developed with the production of tobacco a large fortune. Structural change

In the years since the First World War a structural change of the Kockumsunternehmen was accomplished. Kockums Mekaniska Verkstads in concentrated OFF on the production of vehicles, railway trucks and bridges, the Kockums Jernverk (with activity particularly in Kallinge and Ronneby) specialized in steel, steel products, galvanized and enamelled goods. The throwing enterprise and the bridge construction enterprise expanded after the First World War very strongly. Expansion, fall and owner change

The expansion continued up to the center of the 1970er, when with the other enterprises, as for instance Kockums Jernverk economic problems developed, which thereupon were completed or sold. Kockums Mekaniska Verkstads (since 1977 Kockums OFF) began OFF to restructure likewise its activity, but as consequence of the bad yield and future prospects the enterprise was taken over OFF 1979 of the national Svenska Varv. After the civilian building of ships had been shut down 1987, one shifted production on the building of military ships. 1989 united the Kockums OFF under their own name with the Karlskronavarvet OFF. 1999 went the possession rights to the German HDW company. Kockums employment of new technology in the last year proved as successful, so among other things within the underwater technology and with the development of vehicles in the noise camouflage. The Kockumsunternehmen converted 2002/2003 approx. 1.5 billion sec. and had 1,200 employees in Sweden. Kockums belongs since 2005 to ThyssenKrupp navy of system.
