Klaus F. Carpenter (* 2 December 1952 in is a professor for economic political sciences at the University of Bonn and fee professor of the free University of Berlin. Beyond that Carpenter is a president of the German institute for economic research (DIW) in Berlin as well as director of the research institute for the future of the work (IZA) in Bonn.

Klaus F. Carpenter is married with Dr. Astrid carpenter Trapp. They have two children.

Carpenter belonged to the most influential German economists and enjoys world-wide admittingness.

Academic career/development

Carpenter studied political economy and statistics at the University of Mannheim from 1973 to 1978. Its thesis (diploma) about "money and fiscal policy, written there. A theoretical and empirical investigation of their effectiveness with consideration of rational expectations" was distinguished of the Karin Islinger donation as the best thesis (diploma). It attained a doctorate 1984 to the topic "for the economic theory of the family. Woman gainful employment and birth development in the Federal Republic of Germany with special consideration of the consequences of the rationing, the habit formation and the state activity" (summa cum laude). Its Habilitationsschrift locked Carpenter 1987. Topic was "innovative Activity, Employment Decisions, and the Neoclassical Model OF the Firm: Theory and Practice". It received its venia legendi for the fan political economy and 1987 to 1989 he was first private lecturer at the University of Mannheim. In the following Carpenter was active as chair representatives at the University of Dortmund (1989) and the Ludwig Maximilians university Munich (1989), before he decided against the acceptance of a Professur at the University of Dortmund and became starting from June 1989 professor for political economy (emphasis economic theory) at the Ludwig Maximilians university Munich. After guest Professuren in Tilburg (the Netherlands), at the Humboldt university Berlin, the Kyoto University of (Japan), as well as at the Dartmouth college (the USA), it accepted 1998 the call to the University of Bonn, where it created at the same time Forschungsinstitut for the future of the work (IZA).

After it had deflected before the line ifo of the institute in Munich and the DIW in Berlin, Carpenter 2000 took over the presidency of the DIW. It is member of numerous scientific combinations and in relevant place in scientific consulting committees actively.

In its dual function as president of the DIW and a director of the IZA he is regularly present as Gastkommentator in German and international media. Beyond that he dedicates himself further to the scientific research in the areas of the work economics, population economics, migration, industrial economics and
