A Kladde (since that 17. Century in Niederdeut occupied, actual meaning "‚the dirt `, "‚Schmiererei `) is derived, supposed a provisional draft, a concept and from it as short form of Kladdebuch, lubricate, sketch, note or provisional ledger (Vorbuch).

Kladden are usually firmly bound and contained depending upon intended purpose either empty (blind) sides or such, which with lines or tables are prepared for entries. Contents from Kladden to record keeping (also waste books called) are transferred afterwards into reason and general ledgers.

Also at north German schools the "Kladde" is differentiated from the "recopy booklet". In central and South Germany one speaks of manuscript or concept.
