The term Tastaturrekorder or English Keylogger designates a hard or a software, which is used to along-log and supervise the inputs of the user at a computer or reconstruct thus. Keylogger are used for example by hackers and/or Crackern, in order to arrive at confidential data - for instance passwords or pin -.
Software Keylogger switch themselves between operating system and keyboard, in order to only read and pass then to the operating system the inputs on. Some Keylogger stores the inputs on the non removable disk of the supervised computer, other one sends it over Internet to another computer.
Hardware Keylogger require a direct physical entrance to the computer concerned. They are used in situations, in which an installation of software key log gladly not is possible, not meaningful or too Hardware Keylogger are put directly between keyboard and computer and can be attached thus within seconds. Later they are then again removed. The inputs logged by them are then picked out at another computer. Contrary to software key log gladly the hardware Keylogger does not leave traitorous data tracks on the supervised computer, however they are to be recognized also relatively simply by the fact that suspicious equipment between computers and keyboard hangs at one time, as long as it is not built into the housing. This would be then however again connected with a increased expenditure.

Enterprises, which want to use Keylogger at the firm computers, must catch up the agreement of the work council before. Besides hne knowledge of the users may in accordance with number 22 of the appendix for screen handling regulation "[o] ["…] no device for qualitative or quantitative control to be used ".
