Karl (* 28 January 1955 in Vienna) was as a member of the social-democratic party of Austria (since 1978) from 1995 to 1997 undersecretary of state in the Austrian Office of the Federal Chancellor, afterwards until 4 February of 2000 Federal Ministers for inside of the Republic of Austria. Subsequently, he was a national captain deputy of Lower Austria, until he went to 2001 into the private sector.

Its political career began it 1989 as a mayor in Purkersdorf. It remained this up to its appointment to the Federal Minister for inside in the year 1997. 2000, after the end of the coalition became it again a mayor. 2001 it withdrew as a national captain deputy from Lower Austria. A recent candidacy for the office of the mayor von Purkersdorf 2005 confirmed it again into this office.

Attention excited in its term of office as Ministers of the Interior by its behavior in the case Omofuma, with which it diffamierte the killed pushing away prisoner without knowledge of the state of affairs, even to have been responsible for its death and illegal pushing away practices despite knowledge of the state of affairs defended. Those directly responsible person an official were later validly condemned.
