The term Just in Sequence (JIS) originates from production logistics. One speaks of JIS, if parts are delivered at the time, at which they are to be blocked, by an external supplier in the correct order (sequence fair). JIS is used particularly in the automobile industry. The lead time amounts to about 40 hours on 90 minutes exactly. For the control of JIS Sequence Inlining systems are used.

The Just in Sequence concept (JIS) is an advancement of the Just in time thought. During the supply in the JIS procedure the supplier ensures not only for it that the necessary modules are delivered in time in the necessary quantity, but also that the sequence (Sequence) of the necessary modules is correct.

As example of a JIS delivery the final assembly can be regarded of automobiles. By putting the painted bodies on on the final assembly volume the sequence of the vehicles is fixed. For example if the outside mirrors are made available by JIS delivery, these are already in such a way sorted according to colors, like the vehicles on the assembly belt. The coworker when assembling needs to seize only the first mirror from the transport container according to and has automatically the color in the hand, which he needs for the next vehicle. Application finds this supply form usually with parts, which can vary depending upon configuration of the vehicle which can be built strongly, thus e.g. Lacquer parts however particularly with vehicles of the central and upper class also parts of the vehicle interior. Storing all variants would mean large storage costs.

The fact that by the assortment of the delivered modules an additional communication expenditure becomes necessary is evident. JIS deliveries need, like also the JIT deliveries, which direct contact between customers and suppliers generally by means of a EDImanagers in data minutes of the Edifact, Odette or VDA (for JIS in the special VDA 4916) anyway already exists and only needs one adjustment of the firm software.
