Jules Jean Baptiste Vincent Bordet (* 13. June 1870 in Soignies, Belgium; "† 6 April 1961 in Brussels, Belgium) was special a Belgian biologist, Immunologe and a bacteriologist. For its discoveries in the area of the immunity it received the Nobelpreis for medicine to 1919. The bacterium Bordetella pertussis is designated after it.

Biography

Bordet attained a doctorate 1892 to the doctor of the medicine and began then 1894 its work on the Pasteur of institutes in Paris. There it described the Phagozytose of bacteria in the laboratory of Elie Metchnikoff by white blood corpuscles. he explained the haemolysis caused by addition of strange blood serum to 1898. Starting from 1901 he worked in the Pasteur of institutes in close proximity to Brussels.

1899 he married Marthe Levoz and became father son and two daughters.

1900 it left Paris to create over the Pasteur of institutes in Brussels and found out that non-specific serum components strengthen into vivo the initial specific antigen anti-body reaction and convert into a more effective defense mechanism. It called these components Alexine. Today they are well-known under the name complement system. The process of the connection of antigen, discovered thereby, on the one hand and complement products on the other hand became the basis of complement connection reaction laboratory tests (KBR tests). Thus serologische tests on Syphilis became possible. In particular August von Wassermann developed the test designated after it. With the same (KBR) techniques one diagnoses today countless other diseases.

With Octave Gengou it isolated 1906 Bordetella pertussis in pure culture and postulated it as the causer of the whooping cough.

1907 he became a professor for bacteriology at the university of Brussels.

It received 1919 for its discoveries in the area of the Immunologie to the Nobelpreis for medicine.

Bordet received the universities Cambridge, Paris, Strasburg, Tolouse, Edinburgh, Nancy, Fall, Montpellier, Cairo and Athens. The moreover one it was member in the Royal Society, national de (Paris) and national Academy OF Sciences (the USA).
