Jouef is a French play goods mark, particularly admits became it by the production and the selling of model railways.
The enterprise "Le Jouet (German: the French toy) was created 1944 by Georges Huard, which made household articles of plastic.
End 40's of the twentieth century appeared a first model railway motor coach, a copy of the famous Transsahara course "Alger Timbouctou" out of sheet metal, whose first models with a rubber engine were propelled, on a scale HO (1/87).
Against 1950 became from "Le Jouet or "JF" the mark "Jouef".
From 1952 on a complete program at model railways out of sheet metal was offered. Starting from 1955 electrical courses were produced. The first locomotive BB 9003 was replaced soon by the BB 9004. Another novelty from the year 1955 was the tender locomotive 020 n"°708, which came on copies sold over two million in altogether 40 production years.
In order to extend the product range, starting from end of the 60's of the twentieth century electrical, were offered trace-bound author courses whereby Jouef was one of the first manufacturers of author courses with overhauling function. The vehicles on a scale 1/40 and/or 1/43 reached from Le Mans Boliden over Nobelkarossen up to Familienkut.
After an owner change in the year 1972 the society Jouef was integrated into the group "the French toy", then the societies Delacoste (manufacturer of balloons and infant toy), Solido (specialist for miniature vehicles) and Heller (models from plastics) covered. The production of the author courses with Jouef was stopped. The group went however in the year 1980 into liquidation.
After some owner changes starting from June 2001 production was closed by railway models by the owner at that time, Italian group of lima. Thus also the last model railway factory of France disappeared. The railway models offered thereafter came - under the old name - made of Italy. The production of the author courses had been already stopped with the first liquidation.
In the meantime the English company is Hornby owner of the mark. It is interested in the revival of model railway production.
