John Elliot Cairnes [] (* 26 December 1823 in Drogheda, Ireland; "Â 7. July 1875 in Blackheath with London; also Elliott written) was an Irish political economist.
Cairnes was initially in the brewery of its father busy, dedicated themselves however since 1848 at the University of Dublin the study of the rights. 1857 daselbst appointed the professor for political economy, he followed 1862 a call to the Queen' s college to Galway as a professor of the rights and afterwards a same to the University college in London. Its weakened health forced it to give its training activity up.
