Johann Philipp wood man (* 22 April 1805 in the cross mill with Dreieich Sprendlingen, Hessen; "† 15 February 1870 in Frankfurt/Main) was a building contractor and created 1849 a construction industry, which became later Frankfurt building contractors the Philipp wood man AG.

Wood man was first a Mueller in a sawmill. It led it with its nut/mother together, after its father had died, when he was 12 years old. It extended the cross mill in the proximity of Sprendlingens (on Gemarkung) to the and shifted the company to Frankfurt/Main. its business skill proved later it once, when it built a bar from the wood of the retired Galgens of open brook over the mill brook. When the Galgen was broken off, he found under it a Bleiplatte, which he profitably for 500 guldens sold could.

Wood man was first predominantly in the building of railways and later in the hydraulic engineering active. He took part in the building of the railway in south Hessen (Taunusbahn, Main Neckar course), in the Spessart (1852), in the distance Hanau Aschaffenburg (1855), built the Homburger course (1859) and the port in upper Lahn stone (1860).

The building contractor grew with the industrialization fast. For the expansion of production wood man co-operated already few years after the establishment closely with the German bank. The relationship between the company and the bank was after the historian Manfred Pohl "in the enterprise history of rare durability ".

he handed the line of the enterprise to 1865 over at his sons Philipp and Johann William. At this time the name Philipp wood man was already a size in the region. Under its son Philipp attained the building contractor world validity. It was since 1895 a GmbH, which already belonged before the First World War to the most important building contractors of the world. The Philipp wood man & Cie. GmbH was merged on 30 October 1917 with the international building firm AG, so that finally the Philipp wood man AG developed. This was up to their insolvency 2002 a world-wide active German building company with seat in Frankfurt/Main.
