Jacques Cassard (* 30 September 1679 in Nantes; "† 21 January 1740 in Ham) was a French captain and Freibeuter.

Jacques Cassard made already as Schiffsjunge on board a Freibeuters from Saint Malo first experiences with the navigation. With 18 years he was appointed the second lieutenant on a frigate. It was involved as officer and a sailor in numerous sea-battles during the Spanish succession war. 1709 it had accompanied successfully a ship convoy with grain from Tunesien to Marseille. The grain should save Provence from a threatening hunger emergency. During the journey he struck back an attack of several English ships and brought the convoy of 25 ships with charge reliably into the port of Marseille.

From 1712 to 1714 it went on behalf of Ludwig XIV. on raid into the Karibik and caused in the Portuguese (Kapverden), English (Montserrat and Antigua) and Netherlands colonies (Sint Eustatius, and Suriname) particularly by plundering heavy damages. It was the largest booty course up to then under French flag was undertaken.

With peace of Utrecht, in the spring and summer the 1713 between the majority of the states taken part in the Spanish succession war, came then an end to its Freibeutertum.

After the French crown had demanded payments of compensation by cardinal Fleury of it unsuccessfully, it was imprisoned set for 1736 in the castellet by Ham, in the region Picardie. Here it then also 1740 died after 4 years shank.

In its birth city Nantes was designated an avenue after it, the Cassard. In addition France it zollte Ehrerbietung as several buildings of the navy its name received.
