A Independent label is a disk label, which works independently of the large four major Labels.
In the center of acting Independent label is located to sell music of which the label is convinced to lead and an honest relationship with musicians and fans. These labels understand themselves thus as counter project to the oligopoly so-called major Labels, like EMI, Sony BMG, universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and their subsidiaries. Major Labels stand in the call to work purely profit-oriented and work both against the interests of the musicians and the fans Whenever I talc ton of A bound who acres about ton sign with for A major label, I always end to UP thinking OF them in A particular context. I imagine A trench, about four feet wide and five feet deep, maybe sixty yards long, filled with runny, decaying shit. (Steve Albini)
Usually Independent labels concentrate on a certain music section off the so-called Mainstreams. First of these labels emerged in Germany end of the 1970er, at the beginning of the 1980er years and rose the early Punk and new Wave movement. In addition among other things the label EfA counted (short for: Energy for all). So the establishment of many Independent labels was particularly a conscious refusal to the policy and the aesthetics of the large disk companies into the late 1980er years.
A by far more everyday ground of an artist to sign with a Independent label is, with a major label under contract to be taken because it does not appear salespregnant enough. Thus when budding new music directions a precipitously rising number of music companies (English "label") was "independent" also always particularly to observe.
Although it gives from such general perspective "independent" volume/label in each direction of popular music, this concept attained special popularity after the end of the first Punk wave in the late 70's. That probably, because "DO it yourself" (briefly: "DIY") in the Punk scene to the fundamental convictions belongs anyway. There there were no other possibilities after dying down the first Punk wave to the late 1970er years of taking than production and selling into the own hands since the music industry did not show any readiness to invest further in this range. From this refusal a world-wide trend, in whose development everything was defined, grew what since the early 90's as alternative is designated in the punkorientierten skirt scene.
A typical example of this process is the British "Rough trade record" - label, which developed from the record shop to the prominent European Indie label of the 1980er. On US-American side comparably the label created by members the hard core volumes Black flag would be "sst", whose largest success is from today's viewpoint as one of the first labels Grunge pioneers such as sound guards under contract to have taken. One of the more well-known German Independent labels is L'age d'or. Before this background one has generally critical oppositional fundamental conviction in the Independent scene tradition.
Most members of the Indie scene and/or - subculture have also more or less strongly minted anti-commercial and anti-consumeroriented attitude. This shows up in the refusal purely commercial music volume, the demarcation of excessive and above all "primitive" consumption (both in more material and mental-cultural regard, e.g. by carrying Second hand clothes) and sometimes also generally from general behavior patterns, as they are pointed out by young people or young humans. Meanwhile there is own "Indie "for each music direction off "the Mainstreams "- labels, e.g. "SPV "(Metal) or "Grand hotel van Cleef "("Hamburg school "). Further labels e.g. are.: ! K7, discotheque B or Gigolo record.
Independent labels not exclusively concern themselves with music, but can manufacture also DVDs, videos, mode and other way of life-referred products and marked out.
