The illusory beech plants (Nothofagaceae) are a family of the Bedecktsamer. In former times they were arranged in the family of the beech plants (Fagaceae). In the family only one kind is contained, the illusory beeches (Nothofagus). There are 35 kinds.

All representatives of the family are wood, trees or rarely bushes.

Spreading

All kinds have their homeland in the Southern Hemisphere. Their area is disjunkt. It is the typical spreading sample of a Taxons already in on the Gondwana continent existed: New Zealand, Australia and South America, which formed a continent together with Africa.
