Iswestija soot. Message) was called on 28 February (old time calculation) 1917 the Soviet government sheet created in Petrograd. On 26 October 1917 the historicalpregnant decree over the peace appeared in it. While the Pravda was considered as the official voice of the communist party, the Iswestija served the government as the language pipe, as she was announced by the presidency highest Soviet of the USSR. Thus it was considered as the alleged voice of the people.

Originally the newspaper represented the positions of the Menschewiki and the Trudowiki.

The Iswestija became after the dissolution of the USSR (edition at that time about 1.2 million copies) by privatisation the corporation under the roof of Rosbank and Lukoil.

In the meantime it tries to reach the reputation of a respectable and analytic newspaper. It turns with an edition of 230 000 copies and to well-off intelligence and political elite. Today it is located in the strongly politisierten Russian medium area in the right center.

After the taking of hostages of Beslan in September 2004 the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, Raf Schakirow, became on political pressure to dismiss, because the newspaper had reported too critically on the events.

In the summer 2005 50.2% of the Iswestija shares were sold to the Kremlinnear medium company Gazprom Media.

To the former editors-in-chief among other things Nikolai Iwanowitsch Bucharin and Alexej Adschubej belonged.
