The integration in computer science, particularly in the software technology, serves for the linkage of different applications. In contrast to the coupling it concerns here a decrease and an avoidance of interfaces. Can be differentiated function integration, data integrations and business process integration.

During the function integration several arbeitsteilige applications are summarized into one. Thus it is prevented that in different applications the same functions must be implemented. At the same time interfaces are avoided to the data transfer.

With the data integration all applications involved seize on a uniform data model too around redundancies to avoid. Semantics is alike for all application involved.

Against these two forms of the integration it can be generally said that thereby more with difficulty waitable software can develop. Particularly the function integration can become here problematic. The simpler conversion is favourable.

In the business process integration the different functions are integrated with one another along the business processes with the help of an integration platform. Remain the individual applications, which make the functions available in itself invariably, which makes possible also the employment of standard software. This kind of the integration is a condition for a successful and at the same time economical conversion of E-Business-initiatives. Integration is not technically seen in the sense of EAI a light field. Offerers recruit often with multicolored "refrigerator pictures" - many multi colour rectangles with complicated terms and then a large rectangle drumherum - integration to explain.
