Insured letter (franz.: Valeur = Universal Postal Union language) designates a special dispatching form in the postal service. On the letter in addition an auxiliary sticker (so-called V-note) is applied and the value of contents on the envelope above the address (in accordance with: DIN 5008) with "value: "… Monetary units" notes. The admission of the transmission is confirmed to the sender by a Einlieferungsschein. The transmission is to be packed particularly surely. The post office enterprise is responsible for the loss or damage at height of the damage up to the amount of the declared value.

Beside the normal payment for the letter and/or the package also still another value payment is to be paid, which is dependent on the height of the indicated amount of value, a kind insurance premium.

Germany

At the Federal Post Office insured letters over 500 DM and packages were sealed starting from 3000 DM additionally with sealing wax. The maximum amount was here with 100.000 DM.

Today the German post office does not offer this service any longer and their daughter to DHL only for consignments with declared value abroad. The maximum declared value amounts to here 25,000 euro, with Valoren class II 500 euro (with consideration of the amounts of value of the Worth international is not possible however into all countries in the world. Depending upon Zielland the letter must be sealed.
