The inspector of the navy is the highest troop-official superior of the armed service navy of the German Federal Armed Forces. It is responsible for their personnel and material readiness of application. In this function it is directly subordinated to the Federal Minister of the defense. The inspector of the navy is at the same time a department manager in the Federal Ministry of the defense; it subordinated department is the operations staff of the navy.
In the navy are subordinated to the inspector of the commanders of the fleet and the bureau chief of the board of admiralty as directors/conductors of the two higher command authorities of the navy.
The inspector dresses the rank of a Vice Admiral.
