The initiative D21 is a partnership between politics and economics (Public private Partnership). It consists organizations of all industries, which employ together more than one million humans in the Federal Republic of a network of 200 member enterprises and -. A goal of the non-profit association is it to stimulate by better education, qualification and innovation ability economic growth and secure futurable jobs. All measures of D21 possess a close purchase to information and communication technologies. Idea giver of the initiative D21 is Alfons Rissberger (the MIRROR 38/1999).

The four central topics of interest of the initiative are:

• Growth and competitive ability,
• IT in the health service (E-Health),
• Education, qualification and equal chances,
• E-Government, security and confidence in the Internet.

Projects

On 24 June 2004 the executive committee of the initiative D21 and their adviser under presidency of the Federal Chancellor at that time Gerhard adopted the lighthouse projects in such a way specified at its yearly meeting. Lighthouses are to point the way by light signals ships. In the transferred sense also the idea of the D21-Leuchtturmprojekte is and - topics. They are to be trailblazing for social commitment, particularly in ranges of topics with large potential and high use for the information society.

• The goal of a central emergency call number for closing personal maps with electronic authorization function (EC and credit cards, SIM maps, customer maps, etc.)
• The innovation competition Vision2Market for the conversion of innovative technological product ideas
• The competition ranking kompetenzz, in order to win more women for technical courses of studies
• An acceptance campaign for the promotion of the electronic health map
• Coworker PC programs as contribution for the information society
• The goal of a mobile society, which takes up the trend to a more independent private and vocational life
• The goal that to end 2010 half of all existing Internet connections is wide-band in Germany
• The maintenance of an independent for "the generation 50plus "by on-line offers
• With the project youth to the net is to be strengthened the medium authority by young people

Organization

The initiative D21 registered association is organized as non-profit association, in which approximately 400 persons engage themselves honorary in project groups. The Lands of the Federal Republic are represented in the working groups and in the adviser of the initiative.

As the first association in Germany the executive committee 2003 on-line was selected. Also in the year 2005 again the election of the board of directors on-line took place. Chairman of the board is Thomas Ganswindt, member of the central executive committee the Siemens AG. The two deputy chairmen of the board are William K. Barthelmess and F. Gallmann. As a secretary Hannes Schwaderer was selected and confirmed again as cash-waited Barbara black one in the office. In the adviser among other things Roland Berger, franc Bsirske, Hubert Burda, Wolfgang Sabine Christiansen, Wolfgang Clement, Hans Olaf handle, Dieter Hundt, George Milbradt, Henning Scherf, Gerhard peace Springer, Lothar Peer stone-bridge, Edmund Stoiber, Christian Wulff and George Dieter von Holtzbrinck sit.
