Information economy is the theory of economic handling information. The information economy developed with the transformation of the so-called industrial company into the information society.

There are several different points of view of the term information economy, which shows up also in the training situation in German universities. Some examples are:

  • Information economy as independent range, which is put on

Contentwise information landlords here seen as Mediatoren, which between the different ranges, within which they acquired basic knowledge, to mediate to be able. So an information landlord of this development has approximately equal good knowledge of technical bases, marketing and management and information science.

  • Information economy as subrange of the economical informatics

Training

Information economy is taught as course of studies at different German universities and other universities. Contents of the training, different according to the ambiguity of the term information economy, are partially very.

  • At the university Karlsruhe (TH) consists the course of studies information economy of three subranges: Computer science, economic science and jurisprudence, those in the relationship 2:2: 1 to be informed. The course of studies concerns itself with the reciprocal effects of these ranges and examines their connections, which result as consequence of the information society increased. The course of studies is in equal parts carried by the Karlsruher faculties for economic science and computer science.   • The FH Cologne puts the emphasis on planning of information resources already stored by expirations of information under economic criteria, the efficient storage of information contents and the re-use. Accordingly the course of studies information economy orients itself at the vocational field of the information departments in private-economical enterprises or in mechanisms of the public hand. A substantial task of these departments consists of it, the respective operating goals by optimization of in-plant information flows of supporting - supply and - storage.

The student knows thereby in the main study its emphasis from the ranges economic science (BWL, e.g. marketing), information sciences (e.g. Information retrieval) and information technology (e.g. New media, E-Businesses) select.

The graduate receives the academic degrees: Diploma information landlord (Dipl. - Inf.Wirt)

  • The University of Augsburg offers a Bachelor /Master course of studies "to computer science and information economy "as one of four specializations of the computer science study.
