Industry software falls into the category standard software.

Industry applications are application programs, which can be used for built-in functions in an enterprise and contrary to more function spread or function-oriented standard software are co-ordinated with special market segments.

Some industry solutions are for hundreds or thousands of customers written programs, others however only with clearly less or only in isolated enterprises are used. Often also individual conceptions, which were provided first for only one customer, are offered afterwards for the Nachnutzung and marketed as "industry solution". In such cases a classification into the category standard software is also only very reduced applicable.

Offerers of industry software are called niche offerers and their software therefore as niche software. This software already gives it for nearly all industries (of the automobile industry, over handicraft up to the health service).

Advantages

Contrary to individual software industry software is more economical and nevertheless comparatively well to the requirements of the respective enterprise adapted, and in addition at short notice available.

Disadvantages

Industry software is not frequently on the newest state of the art, since it must be marketed over many years through, in order to refinance the high development expenditures. Under consideration of all pro and cons the employment of an individual conception can therefore quite be more favorable, in particular if modern, alternative software technologies are used.
