An individual part (short: Part) is technically more described, a not detachable article, which is manufactured after a certain work routine. According to DIN 6789 it is an article, which cannot be divided. In contrast for this a building group or a group consists individual parts or sub-groups of several.

In connection with production and production planning and - control systems speaks one of parts list data and does not only mean individual parts, but all materials such as raw materials, materials, semi-finished material, auxiliary materials, fuels and building groups.

With individual parts of a production program the following part types can be differentiated under the criterion of an economic manufacturing:

  • Standard parts; to them DIN standard hurry belongs, in addition, in-plant standardized parts
  • Resembling hurry or repeat parts is parts, which occur in several variants of a product or a group
  • variant of parts, which are each other alike up to few details
  • similar parts are differently, under some criteria however nevertheless comparably. Criterion during the definition of similar parts can be:
    • geometry and shape (form) of a part
    • the surface finish and their quality
    • the material, of which it is made
    • the manufacturing methods with the production
    • the operational funds needed for the manufacturing
  • specific parts are parts, which are designed and manufactured or bought particularly for a use

This distinction of the part types has substantial influence on the article code of a part, in particular on the classifying part of a number. The classification again is necessary, in order to recognize parts categories and manufacturing families more easily.
