Inches Johnson Sirleaf (* 29 October 1939) is since 16 January 2006 president of Liberia. She is the first woman, who attained the office of a head of state in Africa by a choice.
Johnson Sirleaf already made their graduation qualifying for a study in Harvard 1955. It is verwitwet, has four sons and six Enkelkinder. Their grandfather originated from Germany. Besides it was active for the World Bank as well as a number of further institutions and wrote several books concerning African economic policy.
During the Liberian civil war it supported first Charles Taylor against Doe, expressed themselves however later against it. With the presidency elections of 1997 she stood as a candidate unsuccessfully against Taylor. It reached 9.58% of the voices, while Taylor won the choice with 75,33% of the voices. 1999 belonged it to the seven personalities, which was assigned by the organization for African unit the investigation of the genocide in Rwanda.

To Taylors forced resignation in October 2003 it returned to Liberia and supported the interim government of Gyude Bryant. With the presidency elections 2005 she was the candidate of the United party, whose guidance had taken over her. In the first ballot on 11 October 2005 it reached the second place with 175.520 voices and/or 19.8 % after the former soccer player George Weah, which reached 28.3% of the voices. On 8 November 2005 Johnson Sirleaf with 57,9 % of the voices won the ballot against Weah, which deplored irregularities during the counting. Their victory was confirmed on 23 November 2005 despite the pending complaint by the electoral committee.
