Ignaz Seipel (* 19. July 1876 in Vienna; "Â 2 August 1932 in Pernitz) was a politician, theologian, and Austrian Federal Chancellor.
Seipel maturierte 1895 to k.k. State High School in the XII. Districts of Vienna in Vienna Meidling (the today's BGRG Vienna XII pink lane), afterwards it studied theology at the University of Vienna and on 23 July 1899 to the priest was geweiht. It was member of the K.a.V. Norica Vienna, at that time in the CV, now in the 1908 it habilitierte itself at the University of Vienna. From 1909 to 1917 he was a professor for moral theology in Salzburg, afterwards in Vienna.
Briefly before the final collapse of the monarchy he was a Minister for public work and social welfare service in the cabinet of Heinrich Lammasch. Afterwards it belonged to the constituent national assembly and was of 1921 - 1930 chairman of the Christian-social party (CS). Of 1922 - 1924 he was Federal Chancellor for the first time, whereby with the help of a people federation loan reorganized the finances of the state, whereby it came to the introduction of the Schilling currency. That led however to a strong decrease of the real income of the population and strong rising of the unemployment ratio. After an assassination attempt on him on 1 June 1924 it withdrew, however chairman of the Christian-social delegate club remained.
From 1926 to 1929 he became however again Federal Chancellor, whereby he particularly fought the Social Democrats. For this purpose it closed the CS with the largeGerman people's party and the land federation to a anti-Marxist front together ("citizen block"). In addition it strengthened the role of the home resistance. Thus it became the large enemy picture of the Social Democrats, it as the without mildness" designated, particularly after bloody striking down of worker demonstrations on the occasion of the shade village process on 15 July 1927. Thus it turned out under pressure and withdrew again, whereby it was however 1930 brief ministers of foreign affairs in the cabinet of Carl Vaugoin.
After the collapse of the Creditanstalt in the year 1931 he should take over the again, remained however unsuccessful. While its politics were coined/shaped at the beginning by the faith in the of Austria, it held the opinion later that no politics without Germany were possible. With the system of government it was not content and wanted an authoritarian state with itself as a president to create. In addition it did not come however any longer, because after a journey to Palestine it got sick and died to 1932.
