The company Idealspaten Bredt GmbH & CO. Kg is an enterprise in stove corner at the Ruhr. The company busily about 100 coworkers and manufactures annually 1.000.000 shovels and 400,000 spades for the German market and the export.

History

The company Schaufel- and Spatenfabrik Eckardt & CO, limited company was created 1899 by the manufacturer Emil Eckardt ("† 1928), the entrepreneur Kommerzienrat Gustav chief and Christian special man, a grandchild of the Oberbergi industrial pioneer Johann William special man. On 15 April 1899 the foundation-stone of the enterprise was set, and on 10 February 1900 could be begun with production and the selling by shovels and Pflugriestern with 84 persons employed. Starting from 1903 the ideal godfathers on the market, a spade came, consisted with that for the first time sheet and feather/spring of the same piece. Around 1906 the company put on a small workers' housing estate by 6 houses with 4 dwellings each in stove corner, which stands today under monument protection.

During the First World War because of the lack of worker women were used in production. In the year 1925 the work experienced a substantial extension.

Emil hitting a corner hard deceased 1928, and the enterprise came short time later into financial difficulties. On 21 December 1928 the bankruptcy had to be announced and approximately 240 workers became unemployed.

The bankrupt's estate was finally taken over toward end of the yearly 1929. Among the partners ranked under other Dr. Otto Thomas-hope and Karl Gapp from Hagen. The new enterprise received the names of ideal godfather and shovel rolling mills pre-mounts Eckardt & CO., to G.m.b.H., stove corner (Ruhr).

Starting from 1935 the company supplied the realm work service and the armed forces with spades. In the year 1938 the number of the staff rose to 547 persons employed. In the autumn 1939 one attached the company Teplitzer iron works, shovel and things goods factory AG in Teplitz, Tschechien, the enterprise, before in Jewish possession, in the course of the Arisierung.

During the Second World War the company suffered again from lack of worker. One fell back to several hundred prisoners of war and immigrant workers particularly from Poland and Russia, who were accommodated starting from 1941 in a fenced barrack camp, guarded by a unit of the armed forces. In the year 1943 one established a further camp on the firm area. Among the storage conditions hunger and abusing ranked. Some forced laborers died.

After the Second World War the enterprise experienced again an upswing and had more than 500 coworkers. During the 60's-years the competition became stronger by foreign products, while the demand sank.

In the year 1971 the enterprise with the company became A. Bredt & Co. Kg of Witten from Witten combines and was called from then on ideal godfather and shovel rolling mills A. Bredt GmbH & CO. Kg, or briefly Idealspaten Bredt GmbH & CO. Kg.
