History

Johann Adolph Ibach built its first board piano (Pianoforte) in Beyenburg for 1794. 1795 he restored the organ of the cross gentleman master of the place. Before the end 18. Century shifted it production into a rented workshop first to knight living, then to Wupperfeld in Barmen. 1817 established Johann Adolph Ibach a living and a factory building, in whatever he produced pianos and organs, whereby the special attention applied for the building of pianos. 1839 took over the son Carl Rudolf with its brother Richard the enterprise under the name Ad. Ibach of sons. First sales agencies were established in Duesseldorf, Bonn and meal. To beginning of the 1850er years belonged Ibach beside Cologne piano farmer hit a corner and Gebauhr in king mountain to the largest piano manufacturers of Prussia. Ibach advanced its export particularly into the Netherlands. 1869 were paged out the building of organs as independent enterprise. On the Viennese world exhibition 1873 the enterprise was distinguished. The enterprise extended and in such a way were added a sales depot with art carpenter's workshop into Cologne and a new factory into Schwelm.

Further a public instrument museum as well as the first music library of Wuppertal were opened. 1892 took over Hulda Ibach, the widow of Peter Adolph Rudolph, the enterprise. It led the enterprise, which in the meantime several hundred coworkers busy, twelve years long. In this time also the third factory in Berlin was established. Further the enterprise expanded and sold also to central and South America, in the Baltic, to Russia, Asia, Africa and even Ozeanien. Into this time fell different invention and new developments, so the the jet keyboard, the Ibachord (concert Cembalo), the conductor desk piano, the Ibach Welte wing and the Ibach Welte Pianino. The time after that 1. World war became for the enterprise the acid test. Apart from the omission of export markets the market for instruments became smaller by the invention of radio and Grammophon. The car replaced the wing as status symbol. By the changed customer's requests, above all however because of the smaller dwellings, the small piano was developed. The 2. World war brought strong destruction and so also those of the principal firm in Barmen. Therefore the work in Schwelm became 1945 the new head office. Production could be taken up however only 1950 again. The times of the economic recovery in the 1960er and 1970er years brought good times for the enterprise then back.
