Hotel chains are hotel companies with often hundreds or thousands of hotels, which possess hotels in large cities or well-known tourist places. The owners can be both the chain, and independent companies, which use the name of the chain in the context of a Franchisingvereinbarung. A wave of establishments of such hotel chains took place briefly after the Second World War, usually via US-American founders. Well-known hotel chains are e.g. the American chains Hilton and Holiday Inn and the French Accor chain. It gibts in addition, independent hotel chains, usually unions of numerous individual enterprises under a slogan to marketing purposes. An example are here the French Logis de France Union or the German romance hotels.
