Horex was a German motorcycle mark of the "Horex - construction of vehicles AG", which was created 1923 by Fritz Kleemann in bath Homburg in Hessen. The label name Horex is developed supplemental from Homburg and around the registered trade mark "REX" the parental "REX Konservenglasgesellschaft bath Homburg". 1960 were taken over and dissolved the company by Daimler Benz AG.

History

Its father Friedrich Kleemann bought the small engine factory "Columbus engine construction AG" to 1920 in the neighbouring Oberursel (Taunus). That was an origin of the later Horex Werke.Zuerst the "gnome", a 1 HP bicycle auxiliary engine from Oberursel was built there. It was fastened directly before the Tretlager in the bicycle.

Already in the year of the foundation 1923 the "Horex - construction of vehicles AG" built the Fritz Kleemann the first correct Horex, for 248 a ccm machine, which worked satisfactorily also in the racing employment. The cylinders from light alloy with shrunk bush help it to first running victories. Guidance saying was now "built of Motorradfahrern for Motorradfahrer ",1925 fused Columbus and Horex, in order to solve the financial problems of the two enterprises. Now developed a Erzeugnisprogramm from 250 to 800 ccm machines.

1938 developed the 350 ccm long stroke engine "SB35", which its time far ahead was. It was supplied to beginning of war also at Victoria (motorcycle) for the KR35.

During 2. World war rested motorcycle production, but after end of war 1948 could be manufactured again the model SB35.

1950 came the advancement of the SB35, the "Regina" on the market. The beautiful motorcycle with that 350 ccm Einzylindermotor was the most successful Horex motorcycle. 1953 were the model "Regina" the usually-sold 350er of the world, altogether 18,600 motorcycles alone 1953 in the company were built.

1954 presented its 26 HP standard model "Imperator" to Horex, with 400 ccm engine. one presented the successor of the "Regina" to 1955, the "Horex - resident". Because of sales resistance 1956 motorcycle production was stopped and 1960 was taken over the factories by Daimler Benz company.

Under the name Horex were exported also some copies "KS 601 Elastic" by the company into the USA.

To the firm locking in bath Homburg the rights of the use of a name went from the family Kleemann at Friedel It manufactured 1400 TI a lover motorcycle in one-off production under the name Horex. sold the rights to the two-wheeler importer Fritz from mutton brook in the Odenwald. This let manufacture in 80's both Mofas and Mokicks and Enduros and road machines the manufacturers different under the name Horex with Italian chassis and installation engines. passed the name on to the citizens of Berlin "Bajaj motor vehicle marketing company ".

The motorcycle mark Horex attained unexpected late fame by its feature as the motorcycle of Werner, the cult Comicfigur of sees Werner (Comic).
