Hitachi Ltd. Corporation Kabushiki Gaisha Hitachi Seisakusho) is an electronics company with seat, acting world-wide, in Tokyo (Japan).

History and development

Based 1910 of Namihei Odaira as workshop for electro-technology, developed itself the enterprise further fast to a still in the same year first electric motors in series were manufactured. In the subsequent years further products were added, among other things industrial plants, household appliances and communication systems, later also entertainment electronics and information electronics as well as software.

In the year 1959 the Hitachi America Ltd. became. based, further addresses (e.g. Hitachi Europe (1982), Australia (1983), China (1994)) and specialized divisions (e.g. Hitachi Cabel (1956), Metals (1956), Chemical (1962)) were added. Hitachi global STORAGE Technologies (HGST) is inheritance of the non removable disk business of IBM.

Hitachi DATA of system was created 1989 as joint venture with Electronic Data Systems. Originally HDS Hitachi Mainframes should marked out. 1999 took over Hitachi the portions of EDS and remove the enterprise since to an offerer of memory solutions.

Today Hitachi Ltd. count Corporation to the 50 largest enterprises of the world (rank 26, conditions 2003).

Business fields and products

Hitachi is a large mixing company, which of large-scale industry products, as is represented turbine generators over construction machines, household appliances such as air conditioning system to entertainment electronics.

2003 took over Hitachi of IBM the non removable disk section including all model rows (Deskstar, Travelstar etc.) and the development department. This range merged with the old non removable disk section of Hitachi, which manufactured excluding 2,5 " Notebookfestplatten, and firmiert now under the name Hitachi global STORAGE Technologies Ltd. (HGST).

Hitachi developed and produced micro CONTROLLERs, for example the H8-Familie. Today these processors are driven out by the 2003 again created society Renesas, which followed from the semiconductor range of Mitsubishi and Hitachi.

Together with the South Korean company LG a company was created named Hitachi LG DATA STORAGE. It manufactures optical drive assemblies.
