Hirschhagen is a industrie and a populated area from hessian Lichtenau and arms old location in the Werra Meissner circle, North Hesse.

Geography

The place, which lies in the forest hidden between 430 and 476 m highly, is only few hundred meters east the border to the district Kassel, southeast from Kassel, in the Kaufunger forest and only somewhat northnorthwest from hessian Lichtenau. Directly east of it is the Hirschhagener of ponds, north rises the tubing mountain (536 m).

History

Hirschhagen was one of the largest explosive factories during the time of the national socialism. Between 1936 and '45 mainly the explosive TNT was produced here. The former work area covers a surface of approximately 260 hectars. Numerous foreign forced laborers were active in production.

Today the area is hessian Lichtenau proven as industrie and populated area of the city. In the earlier buildings of the work industrial concerns are, partly in addition, to dwellings.

For years extensive repair works take place for the removal of the refuse dumps from explosive production. After extensive surface covering soil examinations different reorganization areas are proven. Here the contamination at Nitroaromaten and PAK is removed by soil exchange or sealed to small parts also by cover. The contaminated is cleaned by means of water purification over activated charcoal filters by the Nitroaromaten. While the soil reorganization is to be locked in 2008, the must be prepared still further.
