Henry Every (* 1653 in Plymouth; submerged October 1696) was a Pirat. It used different other names, among other things John Avery, Long Ben and Ben Bridgeman. Its pointed name was Erzpirat. Its Piratenflagge shows a white dead head in the profile with view to the right, a Kreolenohrring and a front volume, over two crossed bones, on black reason.

According to different reports it was present as a member of the Royal Navy with the bombardment of the in Algiers 1671. After others it was a Bukanier in Central America, or a freighter captain of log in the bay of Campeche. Again according to different reports it is a Pirat under captain talks hand Nicholls in the years 1691 and 1692 to have been. In addition, it could have been a slave hunter in the service of the governor von Bermuda along the westAfrican coast. First Every began with unlizenziertem slave trade from the Bahamas. Over its early years there are thus different versions.

Anyhow he was starting from June 1694 a first leading seaman on the Spanish Freibeuterschiff Carlo II. (ship), which should attack French smugglers on Martinique. The crew became however after months without payment the this year ever more furiously, and so Every stated a Meuterei against the captain Gibson, which out-slept its intoxication, in the proximity of the Spanish city La He was appointed promptly the captain of the ship, which was renamed in Fancy. They segelten from Madagascar to the north and enterten three English ships with the Cape Verdian islands and a French Freibeuterschiff with the island Johanna. They many of the crews could hire. With Johanna it wrote its famous letter:

To all English commanders.
Leave it are sufficient its that I was in this moment on the Fancy, one [warship] on the way am, before admit under the name Charles to the Spanish expedition belonged, and from La the Coruna to 7. May 1694 put down, which is at that time and now a ship with 46 cannons and 150 men, and is in the process searching the luck. Neither I committed a crime so far nothing at Englishmen or Dutchmen, nor I intend it, so long I the leader am. Since I would like with all ships to usually speak, which I meet, and I not would like that someone comes to damage, and should not you, or all, which inform it of it, from the distance to know would like, who we are, then you are to bind their flag to a ball and at the mast hissen. Thus I will in the same way answer, and you will not trouble, because my men are hive-hungry, ful and decided, and if the men do not follow my desire, then I can not prevent this. Still a friend of the Englishmen,
With Johanna, 18 February 1695
Henry Every
Here are approximately 160 armed French of men with Mohilla, which wait for the opportunity, any ship to get, therefore give eight.

Now it is not further amazing that with so unfit signals a confrontation with English ships was not missing.

In close proximity to Guinea, west Africa, lured Every native one under the pretext of the trade to only rob in order it as slaves. It was so successful in its measurement acts that one did not explain it with dignity as for a royal Pardon.

In the spring 1695 Every arranged a Piratenflottille from five ships, when he straight in the Red Sea was. The captains of the other ships were Thomas Tew, William Want, Thomas Wake and William May. With these it attacked soon the Fatah Mohammed of the Grossmoguls and the larger course i Sawai (40 cannons), the one ship federation with pilgrims on the return of Mekka accompanied. The Fatah Mohammed offered only little resistance and brought in 50,000 Pound. The course i Sawai was an enormous ship with 62 cannons and 400-500 Musketieren as well as 600 passengers on board. It lost its main mast with a hit by Every, and a cannon exploded at deck with its first salvo, whereupon the fight soon to the end was. By a bad guidance and the determination of the Piraten the ship had to capitulate after two hours of hard fight at deck. The passengers and crews were tormented and raped, thus them the hiding places for valuable articles relinquishments. Some went voluntarily over board, and some women committed suicide. The search furnished 600,000 Pound in gold, silver and jewels, as well as as gift a meant saddle for the Grossmogul, which was occupied with rubies. After the Piraten was finished, the Piraten left her to leeways, however without the survivors women. They returned finally to Surat. Which happened with the women, is not well-known. It is assumed that they were thrown over board or in were ashore set, where the Piraten continued, in order to divide the booty. This booty was the largest of all times with. Each man got the younger ones 500 Pound over 1000 Pound. Every got portions as a captain two.

Soon thereafter the flotilla separated. Also some of Everys men left it, but got he replacement in the form of slaves, before he embarked himself after pc. Thomas, in order to sell further captured freight. Finally they segelten after new Providence in the Karibik. After he had bought protection of the governor of the Bahamas Nicholas Trott for approximately 7000 Pound and a large celebration organized, segelten he and its crew in June 1695 to Jamaica and tried to acquire a royal Pardon of the governor William Beeston. They offered for it 24,000 Pound to it. Beeston rejected however, and so they returned on the Bahamas. Although the Fancy had been handed over to the governor, the indifferent crew let the heruntergekommene ship accumulate. Thereupon each of its ways went. Some went to America, and others disappeared from the scene. The attack on the course i Saway however had the Grossmogul so much hereditary east the fact that it stopped the trade with the British East India company until carried these reparations out and from Everys crew suspended a reward of 500 Pound on everyone. This resulted in the fact that the troop on the westIndian islands or any other British colony was not welcome.

Every changed its names in Benjamin Bridgeman and arranged some Schaluppen, over with the remaining crew to the British islands to sails. It was not however their kind of remaining inconspicuous and so 24 of them was snatched in October 1696 fast, 6 of it was hung. Those, which got off the life, were pushed away into the states. Every disappeared however after its arrival in Ireland, and one heard never again of him. There were some reports, according to those it in Ireland, Scotland or Wales was seen, others saw it alleged on a tropical island. There are speculations, after which he sat down to the peace and a life led. After others that it became to betrogen with the attempt to sell jewels, so that its fortune dwindled and was forced it soon over food to beg and without means deceased. It is however sure that the seizure of the course i Sawai inspired some men, the Piraterie to turn.
