Henry Clay Frick (* 19 December 1849 in west Overton, Pennsylvania, "Â 2 December 1919 in New York town center) was an US-American Industrieller GermanSwiss descent.
Frick worked in the coke and steel business. Already with 30 years he was millionaire. It supplied among other things the enterprise of the Stahlmagnaten Andrew Carnegie with coke and fused 1881 its enterprise with its up to then best customer. He repented this step however later and it came finally even to judicial arguments between Carnegie and him.
Frick was 1892 in one of the largest strikes of American history, which strike of Homestead entangles, by trying to intersperse the "gentleman in house" - point of view of the entrepreneur side brutally. Frick did not only hire, in order to break the strike in its steel plant, strike breakers, but to their protection also armed groups of one hundred of the Pinkerton agency on. In the course of the arguments between strikers and strike breakers within a daily ten humans were killed and wounded sixty, before the governor von Pennsylvania imposed the martial law.
Thereupon the Russian immigrant and Anarchist Alexander Berkman decided to shoot Frick as guilty ones. After Berkman had penetrated into Fricks office, he shot three times at him and stung twice with a poisoned measurer too, but unsuccessfully. Berkman was condemned in consequence of the act because of attempted murder to 22 years detention, about which he spent 14 years, many of it in solitary confinement, in the prison.
Frick lived its old age in prosperity in a mansion in Manhattan, in which today still the Frick Collection is - the painting collection of the manager, which was brought into a donation.
