Heinrich Meibom (* 29. June 1638 in Luebeck, "† 26. March 1700 in Helmstedt) was a German physician and scholar.

Life

Heinrich Meibom was son of the physician Johann Heinrich Meibom (1590-1655). It studied medicine in Helmstedt, Groningen and Leyden and undertook afterwards scientific journeys to Italy, France and England. 1633 it acquired its doctor title in meadow (France) and took to 1664 a chair for medicine at the University of Helmstedt. 1678 he became additionally a professor for history and poetry. It held these positions up to its death 1700.

Its son Brandanus Meibom (1678-1740) became a professor for pathology, semiotic, Botanik and medicine.

Works

Meibom wrote about 57 medical papers. Admits is Heinrich Meibom by its after it designated discovery of the tallow glands in the lids, to the Meibom glands.

Beyond that wrote Heinrich Meibom latin poems, which he with the works of its grandfather of the same name Heinrich Meibom: Parodiarum horatianarum libri III et sylvarum libri II, 1588) as "Rerum germanicarum scriptores" 1688 gave change.
