Hans Werner Hector (* 17 January 1940 in Kaiserslautern) is a diploma mathematician, entrepreneur and beside Hasso Plattner, Claus Wellenreuther, Dietmar Hopp and Klaus Tschira of one the founder of the software enterprise SAP AG in barrier village.

It studied mathematics at the university of the Saarland and worked thereafter at IBM in Mannheim. Here it recognized the potential of economical standard software with the colleagues specified above. They made themselves 1972 with the company "SAP systems analysis and program development" independent. With the growth of the enterprise Hector answers for the development of the US business after the stock exchange course.

Center of the 1990er years separated it from the operational business. it sold a majority of its SAP shares to 1996. Proceeds made it, with an estimated fortune of 1.6 billion euro, to one of the richest men of Germany.

Afterwards Hector invested software, biotechnology and health in establishments of an enterprise in the ranges. In addition it worked together with his Mrs. Josephine Hector as a sponsor within the cultural range and in the medical research. The married couple received for it on 19 September 2003 the Order of Merit. On 25 November 2003 the University of Karlsruhe Hans Werner Hector lent for its earnings/services around the promotion of high-talented pupils and pupils in the framework from it initiated Hector seminars so mentioned.

The H.W. In addition & J. Hector Donation promotes the arts center Mannheim, which annually lends the Hector Kunstpreis donated by him.
