The hand axe (called with use in the execution of sentences also arranging hatchet) is a tool for hewing small as well as for hitting and pulling of nails out etc.
It was used in some parts of Germany, in particular in far parts of Prussia, until 1936 for the enforcement of the death penalty.
It concerned here a heavy, two-handles hatchet which can be handled, which had a strong striking power by own weight and in connection with an arranging block, before which the victims were buckled on, was used.
The hand axe is used preferably by carpenters and exhibits a long, weakly curved cut of approximately 200 mm length and a handle from 400 to 450 mm of length. The eye is rounded off and has a heel part, which is used as hammer and is frequently file-like abraded.
