Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) is the sieved NCO rank (nco - non commissioned more officer) US navy Corps (USMC). It is settled and after the pay stage E-7 is remunerated directly over the Staff Sergeant and under the master Sergeant. The appropriate NATO rank code is OR-7, whereby "OR stands "for OTHER ranks and/or the NCOs and crews. Therefore the comparable rank of the German Federal Armed Forces is the main sergeant/main boat man and that US Navy of the Chief Petty Officer.

Tasks

The Gunnery Sergeant is usually as a first NCO of a company ('' platoon '') assigned and/or the company commander (platoon COMM vein) directly subordinated. Some apply however also as a chief instructor (DI - twisting instrucutor), in order for three years either in navy the Corps Recruit depot San Diego (California) or on Parris Iceland (South Carolina) to be used. Gunnery Sergeants are addressed by soldiers and officers usually with "Gunny ". Emergence

During the Spanish-American war in the year 1898 that introduced US navy Corps the rank of the Gunnery Sergeant. After the First World War GySgt were used often not technically in the naval artillery, but also entrusted with other tasks. So the rank of the GySgt had a moved history of its introduction 1898 up to its last change 1959. Into the 1960ern only two crossed rifles in the center of the badge were added.
