Members of the group of the twenty (G20, by the fluctuation of the members also sometimes G21, G22 or G20+) are a group of development and developing countries. The establishment took place on 20 August 2003 in the apron of the fifth ministerial conference of the world trade organization (World Trade Organization) in (Mexico) in September 2003. Prominent members are Brazil, India and the People's Republic of China

The G20 treats above all topics from the range agriculture. Central request is the penetration of the relevant agendas of the Doha round the World Trade Organization from November 2001. In particular demand into the G20 represented countries the dismantling of farm subsidies and the abolition of import restrictions for agricultural products in countries like the USA and in the European union.

During the conference of World Trade Organization in the group developed in particular in the area of the agricultural policy to a serious opponent of the states clay-indicating so far within the World Trade Organization. Since the suggestions of the USA and the European Union on the dismantling of its farm subsidies and on the opening of their markets for agricultural products from countries of the G20 did not correspond to the results of the Doha round, it, not least due to the unanimity of the countries in the group, came to the failure of the negotiations.

The countries of the G-20 represent 65% of the population of world, 72% of the farmers of the world and 22% of the world-wide agricultural produce.

Economic meaning

In the countries of the group of the twenty approximately 57% of the population of world live, the 2004 according to World development report 2006 of the World Bank on itself approximately 12% of the world gross national income (BNE) combine (counted into respective US-$, not in purchasing power parities). Altogether the sum of the BNEs exceeds scarcely that Japan, which comes to the USA and before Germany (triad second largest national economy of the world).
