Grotrian Steinweg is one in Braunschweig resident piano building firm.

Theodor stone way transferred 1851 the enterprise of building of pianos of its father Heinrich stone way to Seesen as this to the USA emigrated. The shifting of the enterprise followed after 7 October 1858 occurred Friedrich Grotrian as a partner into the enterprise of Theodor stone way. The manufacturing plant was shifted after Braunschweig and the company called themselves from now on "Grotrian Steinweg ".

Principal firm became a Patrizierhaus at the Bohlweg 48 with 25 coworkers. Stone way sold its portions of William Grotrian to 1865 and to the two coworkers A. Helfferich and H.O.W. Schulz, and followed its family to New York. The company was called from now on "C.F. Th. Stone way Nachf. ", the today still existing company name was introduced 1869: "Grotrian, Helfferich, Schulz, Th. Stone way Nachf. "In the course of the years the Pianofortefabrik yard supplier from far became more than 30 emperor, king and prince houses. By the name disputes with the family Steinway one accepted the surname Grotrian Steinweg later.
