The gross domestic product (GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT) is a measure for the economic achievement of a country.

The GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT again indicates all the available being and services to their market prices, which were manufactured inland within a defined period by in and foreigners and which final consumption to serve. If goods are re-used not directly, but placed in stock, they are considered likewise as final product Due to the view in market prices (nominal) the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT is not independent of the inflation of the regarded national economy. The nominal GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT rises/sinks with monetary depreciation/deflation and from this following rising/sinking market prices.

It corresponds to the sum according to the developing calculation

  • all production values
  • less the payments in advance
  • plus the goods taxes and
  • less the subsidies.

These and other methods of calculation are described in the following.

The GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT in Germany of the Federal Statistical Office, at the end of of April 2005 design fundamentals of a revision is computed submitted. As consequence the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT increased in Germany for the year 2004 from originally 2,177, 00 billion to 2.207, 24 billion euro. The StBA submits each year twice to computations for the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT. In the spring (for instance March/April) the so-called preliminary report and in the autumn (for instance September) the main report, in which also the earlier years are then submitted usually again of an examination and something are revised. For the yearly economic report of the Federal Government in January the StBA supplies with to numbers likewise in the December, which is then based naturally still partly on

Computations

The computations in the different procedures result in identical results for a concrete national economy in the same period of the view.

  • Developing calculation: According to the developing calculation in such a way specified the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT results, as first from the production value the payments in advance are taken off, in order to arrive at the gross value creation. Addition of the goods taxes and subtraction of the subsidies result in the gross domestic product.
+ production value
- Payments in advance
= gross value creation
+ goods taxes
- Subsidies
= gross domestic product
  • Use calculation: According to the so-called use calculation the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT results as sum of the consumer expenditures of the private households and private organizations without profit-making purpose and the State of, the capital expenditures (gross) (including the camp changes), as well as the exports less the imported goods (external contribution).
+ gross investments
+ consumer expenditures
+ public expenditures
+ external contribution
= gross domestic product
  • Distribution calculation: Beginning is the national income of German citizens developed with the production of the goods and services
+ employee payment
+ enterprise/fortune incomes
= national income
+ production and expenditures for import
- Subsidies
= net national incomes to market prices
+ writings-off
= gross national incomes to market prices
- Balance of the primary incomes from the remaining world
= gross domestic product

The Federal Statistical Office points thereupon that in Germany no independent computation GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT over the distribution side is made no sufficient data concerning the Unternehmensgewinne to be present there.

From the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT if the writings-off are taken off, the net national product results.

+ gross domestic product
- Writing-off
= net national product

The methods for the collection of the data and computation of the gros domestic product are revised in irregular distances. Thus considered since the last revision of the economical Gesamtrechnung from 28 April 2005 for example up to then the not seized indirect repay the banks from the credit and insert business. In order to ensure the historical comparison, the data are adapted accordingly for the past years.

The GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT per head is divided the gross domestic product by the number of inhabitants. It is often purchasing power-settled indicated, i.e. it is computed in such a way that the different price levels in different countries are faded out. So the economic achievement can be compared by countries.

Gross domestic product and inflation

The nominal GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT

The nominal GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT is the most usual form, in order to compare the national product from countries or regions to. It indicates the sum of the foreign creation of value and/or the creation of value of regions in current market prices. Disadvantage is that these can be "falsified" by monetary value changes. Thus a five-per cent inflation rate leads with equal lasting goods production to a gros domestic product rise of likewise five per cent.

The material GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT

In order to be able to regard the GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT independently of changes of the prices, one uses the material GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT, as all goods and services are evaluated to market prices of a base year (GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT at constant prices). Recently chain indices are used

The material GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT can be computed also from the nominal GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT, if one knows the price increase since the base year. From this the formula results:

\ mathrm {GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT} _ {\ rm material} = \ frac {\ mathrm {GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT} _ {\ rm nominally}} {\ mathrm {price index}} \ cdot 100

Gros domestic product Deflator

The Gros domestic product Deflator (S. there) is the quotient from nominal and material GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT.

Restaurant economics and prosperity

The force of expression of the gros domestic product concerning prosperity and quality of life of humans in a national economy is inaccurate, since the following factors or only approach are not along-computed:

  • Moonlighting and/or the entire shadow economy
  • Unpaid work in the own household
  • The downward gradient between poor and richly
  • The presence of infrastructures in a state
  • Consumption of natural resources and environmental degradation

For this reason is tried, by means of supplementing indicators as to be made to the human development available index, the Genuine progress indicator, the index OF Sustainable Economic Welfare or the ecological foot casting a large analysis of the national economy.
