Gordon Battelle (* 10 August 1883, "† 21 September 1923) was an American industrial leader with interest of research. It was engaged, among other things in the metallurgy director of a large American rolling mill in Middletown (Ohio), Iceland Steel CO. OF Chicago and the Eastern Hocking Coal CO.

After its death on 3 October 1929 the Battelle Memorial Institut in Ohio based with the objective to open its research ideas future generations.

The institute for battery inch promoted among other things

• the development of nonmagnetic and stainless high-grade steel alloys
• Vertragsforschung
• Participation in the Manhattan project
• Development of herbicides on copper basis
• Advancement of hard glass
• Development of the drying copier (1944)
• various technology projects (after 1945)

Today Battelle is a global science and technology enterprise with an annual turnover of $2.9 billion for research and development.
