Giresun is the capital of the Turkish province of the same name Giresun. It is in the northeast because of the black sea.

About 2 km before the coast Giresuns the only inhabited and habitable island is in the black sea. This island one regains also in the Greek mythology, here is Herkules the Amazonen meets to be. Also the name of the city comes from the Greek Kerasus, too German "cherry ", too Turkishly Kiraz. Lucius Licinius Lucullus brought approx. 70 v. Chr. the first cherries from Giresun to Europe. The Haselnuss finds its origin also from this region of Turkey. The Haselnussanbau is the main source of income that approx. 500,000 inhabitants.
