The German Telekom AG is a corporation, which came out from the privatisation of the telecommunications of the national Federal Post Office. The Federal Republic of Germany keeps directly 15.2 % and indirect, over the kreditanstalt fuer wiederaufbau, further 17.3 % of the shares. The remaining 67.5 % of the shares are in strewing possession (conditions April 2006).
The German Telekom with seat in Bonn is of Europe largest telecommunications enterprise. It operates technical nets (ISDN, DSL, satellite, etc.) for the enterprise of information and communication services (IuK), e.g. Telephones (fixed net and portable radio) or on-line services. The German Telekom busily world-wide approximately 245,000 coworkers (conditions December 2005) and obtained a conversion of 59.6 billion in the financial year 2005 "Â.
Besides the German Telekom AG, as successors of the German post office of the GDR and the Federal Post Office, is the most important operator of broadcasting stations in Germany. Like that all important broadcast end plants are in the former GDR property of the German Telekom AG. In the old Lands of the Federal Republic the programs of the private broadcasting stations (with exception of Europe 1) are spread, those of the Deutschlandfunk, the Germany radio and the Second Channel of German Television over plants of the German Telekom AG. Also the AFN uses transmitting plants of the German Telekom AG at some locations for the spreading of its programs.
The Corporate Design of the German Telekom is coined/shaped by one magenta written letter T, which by particulars or several is enclosed as digits designated grey points. In order to keep this appearance singular, the Telekom led several processes, in which it concerned the worthy of protectionness of the color Magenta and letters the T. Accordingly products and the names of the subsidiary companies are provided also with the letter T and written with digits. Typical examples of these art terms are T-NetBox, T-DSL and T-mobile.
The symbol was taken over by the Federal Postal Administration, which used a similar symbol as an indication of the division TELEKOM. It consisted of the word "TELEKOM" with grey small boxes between the letters and the Posthorn.
Briefly after the privatisation by some Kabarettisten the idiom "the T with the four busy signals" was used in allusion on the grey points. This idiom is however completely in oblivion guessed/advised.
During the establishment of the AG on 1 January 1995 the share was not quoted. The stock exchange course followed on 18 November 1996. The share of the German Telekom, briefly T-share, was called during its introduction people's share. It released up to then a stock exchange upswing not known in Germany. Bond issuing price of EUR 14.57, determined by one in the Bookbuilding procedure, the value of the share rose after first restrained development on up to EUR 104.90 (6. March 2000) on, sank then however a course, which was occasionally under the bond issuing price.
With this loss the discontent of the shareholders with the company grew, in particular with the chairman of the board at that time Ron summer. Not least on pressure of the Federal Government, in particular of chancellor Gerhard (rated by many as political maneuver before the forthcoming election to the Bundestag), summer withdrew on 16 July 2002. For a transition period of six months the Helmut Sihler was intended to its successor. Since 15 November 2002 dock Uwe is Ricke, son of the summer predecessor Helmut Ricke and up to then boss of the mobile section of the company, chairman of the board of the German Telekom AG.
In the apron of the IFA 2005 in Berlin the German Telekom let announce on 1 September 2005 to present an investment program of 3 billion euro until 2007. The money is to flow thereby into modern glass fiber TZE, which make transmission rates possible of up to 50 Mbit/s. That would be more as three times faster than the fastest DSL connection (conditions: January 2006) and sufficiently for the transmission of highly soluble television into the household. The 50 largest German cities are to be supplied in such a way. Thus the company aims at the transmission of multimedia contents such as films or television broadcasts into the households. The fusion is called "Triple Play" and is a combination of an Internet entrance with high data rates (e.g. VDSL), communication services (e.g. VoIP) and individually callable maintenance offers (e.g. TV of over IP) over Internet minutes (IP).
On 3 November 2005 the enterprise communicated a personnel reduction program for the domestic company. To end of 2008 approx. 32,000 places are to be diminished with the business field broadband/fixed net, as well as with the business customer selling and the administrative units. The dismantling is socialcompatibly, i.e. without operatingconditioned notices with the emphasis Vorruhestand and part-time work for elderly people to be completed. With view of the challenges for Triple Play, but not diminish to the core business belonging Telekom rescue company Vivento approx. 7,000 coworkers for the development of the glass fiber net and 5,000 new jobs are to develop for the associated services. Approx. 19,000 jobs will be omitted net at the German Telekom.
