The German post office AG resulted 1995 from privatisation together with the German Telekom AG and the postal bank AG from the authority the Federal Post Office. In order to protect the customers against abuse of the dominating the market position of the follow-up enterprises of the Federal Post Office, the adjustment authority for telecommunications and post office became (RegTP) (since 2005: Federal net agency) based, the adherence to the competition-adjusting regulations within the range of the post office and TK-services (among other things with the Postgesetz) supervises.
The Postgesetz awards a set of limited exclusive rights to the German post office AG. Large parts of these exclusive licenses are in favor of a European-wide market opening already please. To 31 December 2007 the last exclusive license ends. Therefore the German post office works intensively to increase their foreign portion of the conversion continuously.
Since June 2005 the German post office is by the majority in private property. The federation sold its portions by the majority to private investors as short term measure for budget reorganization.
Since then the German post office AG grew particularly by enterprise purchases (DHL, postal bank, Danzas, Exel among other things) to the company German post office World Net. The company obtained a conversion of 43,168 billion EUR and a profit (EBITDA) of 3,347 billion EUR in the year 2004.
At the end of December 2004 was active the German post office in 220 countries. The enterprise employs at this time about 380,000 humans. By the 5.5 billion euro expensive assumption anglo-saxon logistics enterprises of the Exel in November 2005 were then 500,000 humans at the German post office actively.
The company divides itself into the following four divisions: Letter, express, logistics and finances. Since June 2004 the shares of the financial daughter postal bank at the stock exchange are acted.
Since 2002 the company center is in post office the Tower in Bonn. On 14 June 2005 the kreditanstalt fuer wiederaufbau offered shares in the value of 2 billion euro. Since the German post office was not any longer by the majority in government property.
