The German post office of the GDR (shortened: DP) was due to a law from 3 April 1959 as a state institution of the carriers of the post office and telecommunication system in the GDR. Their the exclusive right was transferred for message transport, transmission of news as well as to the selling by products of press (post office newspaper selling) on the area of the GDR.
