German Institut for medical documentation and information (DIMDI) is a subordinate authority of the Federal Ministry for health (BMG) and 1969 with seat in Cologne was based. To its tasks it belongs to make for the technically interested public current information from the entire area of the medicine simple and fast accessible.
On the basis of the emphasis health service and medicine the information offer - also by co-operation with other institutions - was constantly extended. The DIMDI offers today a broad spectrum of data bases from the ranges to medicine, pharmacy and toxicology, which are callable on-line over Webbrowser or telnet. Altogether up-to-date approximately 70 data bases with approximately 100 million information units are available.
Many of the data bases are publicly, approximately 30 besides free of charge. Some are only for specialists (physicians, pharmacists and so on) and only after registration or by password accessible.
Besides publishes also German-language versions of medical classifications (like ICD-10, internationally Classification OF Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), OPS-301, anatomical therapeutic chemical classification system (ATC), MeSH and UMDNS) and nomenclatures the DIMDI in the context of its legal tasks and makes information systems available for medicaments, medicine products and Health Technology Assessment (HTA).
